When Was Sugar Beet Sugar First Produced?

Until the 18th century, sugarcane was predominantly the only source of sugar worldwide. The presence of sugar in sugar beet was first identified during studies conducted in Germany in the 18th century. However, due to the higher cost of sugar produced from sugar beet compared to that from sugarcane, the establishment of factories for sugar beet sugar production became feasible only in the early 19th century.
